What Is General Dentistry?

General dentistry focuses on maintaining your overall oral health through preventive, diagnostic, and restorative care. From routine cleanings and exams to treating cavities and addressing oral health concerns, general dentistry serves as the foundation for a healthy smile. Regular visits to a general dentist help prevent potential issues and ensure your teeth and gums remain in excellent condition.

What to Expect During a General Dentistry Appointment

Step 1: Comprehensive Exam

We begin with a thorough evaluation of your teeth, gums, and overall oral health, often utilizing digital imaging for precise diagnostics.

Step 2: Professional Cleaning

Our skilled hygienists remove plaque, tartar, and surface stains, leaving your teeth clean and polished.

Step 3: Personalized Treatment Plan

If any issues are identified, we’ll create a customized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.

Step 4: Patient Education

We’ll provide tips and guidance on maintaining optimal oral health at home, including proper brushing and flossing techniques.

Benefits of General Dentistry

Regular general dentistry care helps prevent oral health issues, reduces the risk of gum disease, and ensures early detection of potential concerns. Maintaining consistent care can save you time, discomfort, and money by addressing problems early.

How do I brush my teeth properly?

Brushing is an integral part of keeping up with your oral health, and proper technique makes it even more effective. We recommend that you brush your teeth at least twice a day for two minutes at a time. Be sure to hold your brush at a 45-degree angle and, using small, circular strokes, clean the front, back, and chewing surfaces of each tooth, spending about 30 seconds on each quadrant of your mouth. Use an ADA-approved toothpaste that is rich in fluoride, and replace your toothbrush or electric toothbrush head every 3-4 months, or when the bristles begin fraying or looking worn.
